BEST has designed a number of Awards/ Fellowships and Medals to help you achieve your entrepreneurial potential throughout your studies to highlight and improve your experience.

On Arrival: Bergeron Entrepreneurs in Science and Technology (B.E.S.T.) Entrance Award

Description The B.E.S.T. Undergraduate Entrance Award is offered to undergraduate students who are entering the Lassonde School of Engineering.
Criteria of eligibility
  • demonstrate  an enterprising track record,
  • show leadership in creating a new initiative
  • provide evidence of their entrepreneurial initiatives
Application process To apply for this award, students must complete the online entrance scholarship application available from the BEST web site, which will include submitting a two-page essay or personal statement offering evidence of their entrepreneurial initiatives (leadership and/or involvement in enterprising activities) and that demonstrates their commitment to continued entrepreneurial activities. Students will be selected for the BEST Entrance award by the B.E.S.T. Awards committee.

Description BEST awards help selected students in the pursuit of activities, programs, and courses related to their entrepreneurial education while at Lassonde.

  • being in good academic standing in their program and demonstrate how funding will help their entrepreneurial education and must possess two of the following attributes:
  • demonstrated leadership
  • evidence of entrepreneurial talent
  • entrepreneurial engagement
Application process To apply for this award, students need to complete the application available through the BEST website. The B.E.S.T. Awards Committee will shortlist the candidates and will coordinate final adjudication with the Dean of the Lassonde School of Engineering for final approval.

While you start your Business: Bergeron Fellowship

Description BEST Fellowships awarded to support entrepreneurial students starting ventures. It is generally awarded as part of BEST Co-op or in the BEST Lab.
Criteria of eligibility
  • being in good academic standing in their program
  • demonstrated leadership
  • evidence of entrepreneurial talent
  • entrepreneurial engagement
  • financial need within the business
  • acceptance into the BEST lab
Application process To apply for this award, students starting their businesses will complete the application available through the BEST program website (http://best.lassonde.yorku.ca/). The B.E.S.T. Awards Committee will shortlist the candidates and will coordinate final adjudication with the Dean of the Lassonde School of Engineering for final approval.

Bergeron Medal

Bergeron Medal of Distinction will be awarded to the most promising entrepreneurs at Lassonde School of Engineering who has combined engineering expertise with an entrepreneurial spirit to turn ideas into successful businesses.

This annual distinction is given to two of the top students in the BEST program, many of which have also received the BEST Certificate.

No application is required. Students must be participants of the B.E.S.T. program.

The B.E.S.T. Awards Committee will shortlist the candidates and will coordinate final adjudication with the Dean of the Lassonde School of Engineering for final approval.
