Do we have to create our own challenges or will we be given some?
Overall the challenges we would like students to address are those aligned with the UN sustainability goals. Everyone is welcome to choose an aspect of these goals, and use this in a team over the weekend.
In addition, we will be bringing some specific challenges from our sponsors to participate in this event. You can bring your own challenge or choose one of the challenges that will be presented by one of the event partners (such as York University).
What are the prizes?
The main prizes (1st, 2nd and 3rd place) are judged on Innovativeness, Desirability, Feasibility, Viability, Impact on sustainability, presentation quality. In addition, each of the partner challenges will offer a prize-linked to the partner or the challenge.
Do I need to have a team to compete?
One of the greatest experiences is meeting others who are inspired to change the world, in fact, some of you may find your new best friend. So the basic answer is not, you do not have to come with a team, but if you come with a friend, you can choose to be on the same team.
How are teams chosen?
A couple of days before the event you will receive a link to provide some basic information about yourself and to identify which of the UN sustainability challenges you would like to work on. After the opening ceremonies you will be invited to join a group of participants who want to work on the same challenge, and you can choose your group from them.
Who is the event designed for?
The BEST Startup Experience is a great experiential learning opportunity that provides a safe space for you to explore new challenges, meet new people, learn new processes and explore your passions and strengths to make better-informed career decisions.
