Lassonde Professional Development (LPD) offers unique, blended, online and experiential courses, designed to meet the professional development needs and interests of technologists and engineers. LPD is an integral part of the Lassonde School of Engineering at York University, committed to implementing Lassonde’s vision of providing ‘lifelong learning’ opportunities to engineers and those with a passion for technology.
LPD currently offers traditional executive management courses (i.e. Quality Management and Project Management) in conjunction with York University’s Schulich Executive Education Centre (SEEC), and technology focussed courses (i.e. Blockchain and Artificial Intelligence) relying on Lassonde faculty and partners. LPD is also developing a series of innovation management courses (i.e. Design Thinking and Creative Problem Solving), in partnership with SEEC’s Centre of Excellence in Applied Innovation Management, and the International Association of Innovation Professionals (IAOIP). We will continue to add courses based on the needs of our community.
LPD courses are characterized by high professional standards, expert instructors and immersive learning environments, where participants build a community where they learn from and interact with each other (before, during and after the course). Each course includes insights from global thought leaders, a summative assignment, and access to experts. Participants who complete each course, not only receive a certificate,but have the option of completing the appropriate professional exam. Each course is also designed to align with industry requirements for continuing professional development.
Innovation Management Courses
One of the first questions people ask about innovation is “how do I create a culture of innovation”. The real question is “how can I get creativity to co-exist with and ‘execution’ culture”. This workshop will give you answers to that question and show the essential behaviours and organization structure you need for innovation.
An intensive in depth two day course which gives an extensive understanding of innovation. Each segment has a workshop which develops understanding and application of the knowledge in that segment. This course takes the content of ‘Innovation Never Stops’ and expands it to a new level.
Service accounts for 80 % GDP in the US. The unique challenges of the service sector are addressed in a one day course designed around a case study. Issues such as customer emotion, service prototyping and the influence of technology are addressed. Service innovation requires both business model and process innovation to take advantage of the new tools provided by digitization.
