Douglas Bergeron is one of York University’s most successful and accomplished graduates. He is now giving back to his alma mater with a generous $2 million donation to establish the Bergeron Entrepreneurs in Science and Technology program at the Lassonde School of Engineering.
Born and raised in Windsor, Ontario, Doug Bergeron is the son of George and Eleanor Bergeron, and the eldest of four children. He graduated with Special Honours, majoring in Computer Science, at York University in 1983.
After completing a Master of Science degree at the University of Southern California, Doug became a private equity partner at one of California’s leading private equity firms in 2000. He led the acquisition of VeriFone from Hewlett Packard for $50 million, becoming the largest shareholder.
Doug is a five-time invited attendee to the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, as well as a lifetime appointee to the Council on Foreign Relations. He has been a frequent guest on CNN, Fox News, and CNBC
