Project Description

Technological advances are able to create and destroy whole industries. Digital cameras assassinated film, online streaming killed Blockbuster and UBER is reshaping taxi services. This course develops concepts of how technology can create opportunities leading to new industries or disruption of existing industries. A broad understanding of several contemporary technology sectors will be presented and ultimately evaluated on their potential to disrupt operations in multiple industries.

  • Identify various technologies poised to disrupt multiple industries
  • Understand and broadly explain the workings of disruptive technologies
  • Critically assess the impact of technological advances on existing industry operations
  • Identify new opportunities for technology development
  • Identify new opportunities for technology entrepreneurship ventures and new industry development

Lecture content will be complemented with expert guest speakers discussing recent advances in the various technology sectors. This information will be channelled into a group discussions on how disruptive technology will reshape the future. Using these projections and concepts of entrepreneurship, the final tech project will ultimately focus on identifying novel opportunities for technology ventures.
